A series of shorts airing the hopes and motivations of a number of disabled people at the beginning of a New Year.

Channel 4 marked launch of the European Year of Disabled People with a series of short programmes called: '03 and Me'. The programmes explore what it means to be a disabled person at the beginning of the 21st century through some very personal reflections on the past, the present and the future. 03 and Me includes a range of voices from all walks of life - from a model, an actor and a singer to an athlete, an entrepreneur and a student. They present a surprising and challenging insight into the diverse experiences of life with a disability.

Each programme is built around a different theme: * The Turning point: A life-changing moment; * Reflections: How I see myself and how others see me; * Get up and Go: What motivates me; * My Wish: a wish for the future. Director was Justin Edgar, producer Rosa Rogers and editor Bim Ajadi, with music composed by Tanera Dawkins.

In The Turning Point Kirin Saeed describes giving up her job to become an actor. 'I woke up one morning and I just decided this wasn't for me anymore. So I just went into work and I resigned. And it was the biggest relief of my life, I loved it. I was the only disabled person working in this particular department. They were really inspired by all the things I'd already done, all the changes I'd made and they were afraid for me.'

In Reflections entrepreneur Sue Venables tells us how she sees herself: 'I see somebody with red hair, a piercing, tattoos and - outside - a wheelchair as well. I see the wheelchair last and the disability last, that's right at the bottom of the list… I think a lot of people see me as a disabled person first and then, unless they talk to me and get to know me, they think that I can't speak and there's no point talking to me really. If they got to know me then they'd see I am exactly like them.'

In Get Up and Go Sue says: 'I think being disabled I've got a lot more motivation because I think I have to work harder than everybody else to prove that I can do things. And I do work harder because I don't want anybody to think that I can't do anything just because I've got a disability.'

Wishes for the future include: to be able to get into a heavy metal nightclub without checking it's accessible; to get to grips with DVDs; to be assistant England coach; and to present a reality TV show. 03 and Me won a Picture This Award in 2004, with the judges saying: "excellent short pieces that provide glimpses into people's lives, dreams & skills.
